What to look for if you need a trainer
Should you happen to look in the phone book or even online you have undoubtedly discovered there is a limitless supply of "dog trainers" who are more than willing to work with your dog.
A good trainer will be more than willing to supply you with references of several people they have trained for. A face to face meeting with your prospective trainer is also a good idea because unfortunately some of the really good trainers have "zero" people skills to compliment their training ability. If you are thinking about going to a class ask to observe a session or two and ask the students about their experiences with the trainer.
There are no laws governing any type of licensing for dog trainers and after reading this article and doing a bit of research, you to could call yourself a a trainer!
Many good trainers have either gone to a "physical school" to physically train several types of dogs (with different personalities) or complete an apprentice program. You cannot learn to train dogs exclusively by reading an article, that is why you correspond with me during the training of your dog(s).
