The real truth about trainers you should know

The good the bad and the ugly that about sums up the variety of talent out there.

There are no laws that govern any type of licensing needed to be a dog trainer. I am not saying all are good or bad but you need to be weary about what you are being told and by whom.

I'll share one personal experience of a "certification" I received a few years ago. To become licensed by a national pet store I have to take a five minute phone test administered by an hourly employee (surprised I passed) it was that easy.

There are numerous places to look online to get a "certification" that states you have successfully completed the course study work as well. There is no replacement for doing the actual physical work with a wide variety of dogs with a wide variety of temperaments. To this day, I would not be cocky enough to say I've seen it all and trained "the best of the best" or the "worst of the worst." After 25 years of experience I have been fortunate enough to learn something new every time I work with a dog.

Dog trainers make their money in a variety of ways, some by the number of times they see you for training/behavior modification sessions and some charge a one time fee for a specified number of sessions or anything in between. Always ask what you are getting into and for a firm estimate of the time involved.

After doing some market research on my competitors, I have discovered that trainers who charge by the session work very slowly where I work very fast. A rough estimate to achieve a certain behavior that a private trainer will charge you is between $180 and 270 in the Kansas City Metro area.

This is why I've started this website. I strongly believe that the behavior modifications you can purchase from me for only $9.95 will give you the tools you need to do the training yourself and with out paying through the nose.

I will be more than happy to answer any questions you have regarding any of my options available here on my site.
